Review: Manwhore #1 - Katy Evans

(⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4 of 5 stars)

CAUTION - This article has mayor SPOILERS of this book, so if you haven't read it, please stop here!!!! (because you should really read this book before knowing what happen)

I have so many things to say about this book, I re-read it to get as many details as posible for you guys!!!!

So let's get started - and what better way to do so that talk about the  absolute BEST part of the book ---> THE END!!!! It was the most unexpected part of it, because c'mon, we all new he was going to figure out about the article way before she tells him! But, the final pages of this books are amazing!!! Katy Evans left us hanging and hungry for more, just as Rachel at the doors of Malcolm's office.

As I said in my announce of Manwhore #2 Excerpt, I enjoyed books like this one basically based in the way they make me feel, and this finale, plus the interaction between Saint and Rachel, really left some sparkles in me! (reason why I gave it so many stars to the review). I even spent an entire week with a mayor book hangover over this one - wanting to know why Malcolm wanted to see Rachel in his office, over and over again! Hahaha I know, obsess much?

But, like most of this types of literature, it has some flaws - some of the character are quite predictable, sometimes even the main female character! I would have loved to see Rachel get the courage to tell Sin what she was actually doing, instead of hide behind of her fear of being discover... It would've given her a strong point to her personality and made her a true heroine. Because, let's face it! She could have found another job! And I get that she felt bad for the rest of the magazine to lose their jobs, but she was playing the guy too, so she was going to do some damages no matter what she chose.

And don't get me start it with his or her friends for that matter - Tahoe and Call are as flat as a table! Playboys with money and nothing else, while Wynn and Gina are the stereotypical girlfriends - like the good angel/bad angel couple - they are always judging and expecting Rachel to do as they say so... So not cool for friends to do that, specially Gina! I really loathed her most of the book, because she thinks everybody most live as she does and just because she got her heart broken, everybody else is going to suffer to! Well, if you didn't get the memo Gina, EVERYBODY HURTS (an is hurt) sometime! Hahaha

Another flaw, from my point of view, is the complete immersion of Rachel in Malcolm's subject! From a quarter of the book forward, she forgets about her job, her mother, her friends, her cause against crime and basically her life and just centers in Sin - and I get that she gets obsess with him and she can't get enough, but I would have loved for her to still maintain some of her life while develop this crave for him. Like, see her redirect that passion in something else.

While the secondary characters are a little weak for my taste, the principal ones I think are better developed:

- Rachel, leaving aside her lack of courage and be predictable at times, is not a bad character! I really like that she is independent of her mother and that she has her personality defined - she replies in the most unexpected way to Saint from moment one, she's not afraid to express what she wants when she's intimated with him and, even if she's blushing a lot, she is no a shy woman and this makes her more real than other female ladies in this kind of books (let's say: ANA STEELE, for example hahah). She also has this Electra complex, where she's basically craving for a male figure in her life and she's always envying her friends' relationships with their fathers or boyfriends for that matter. Is a good reason to get so obsess over a man - but I'm not sure if Saint is the right kind of man for the job - I think she needs someone a little bit more soft and Malcolm is definitely not it!

- Malcolm is exactly what a man like him should be - Someone who has a lot of money to  do as he please and just does it! Without any subtext - we see this in the many parts where he says he does things because HE CAN - Dah!! - Obvious but great answer. And at the end he's a 27 year old guy so the friends, the cars, the parties and the girls are a normal standard in his life, without that to be reference to his childhood. He had some issue growing up, like any other person but I like that he's not like a traumatized character.

The story is quite predictable at some points and I got little upset when she couldn't figurate out what to do and got stuck in the thought: "I have to write this exposé, but a feel bad... blah blah blah" - And I know I already said this at the top of the review but really ---> SHE HAD CHOICES!!! She had the choice of refusing to write the article sooner, to tell him the true at some point, to get another job, because, from a journalistic perspective, this was definitely not the big gig she was thinking about!! And less in a dying magazine, so go girl and FIND ANOTHER JOB already! Or write the story from a positive perspective from the beginning - this way, you can tell him the true and still have your job.

But overall, I really enjoy this book - the interactions between them, the never ending make out sessions and the chemistry they have with each other (in my opinion, portrayed as realistic as in real life) are worth it! I can tell that beside the flaws, your get caught in the story and you could really have a good time reading it - and don't forget the great ending that leave us wanting for more!!!!!!!

I'm so excited!!!! The second book of Katy Evans's series Manwhore is coming next week - July 7th to be precise! And I just loved the first book, in fact, I got a book hangover for a week hahahaha.

If you haven't read Manwhore #1 and you are a big fan of the Fifty Shades style, you should really go for it - I'm going to be releasing my review of the first book soon before Manwhore+1 arrived, so hurry up!

Also, I have some great news for you!!! Katy Evans revealed an excerpt of the book TODAY, so we can have a sneak peek of what is coming! I'll share the link with you at the end of this post ;)

So, here's the description of Manwhore +1:

"Billionaire playboy? Check.

Ruthless businessman? Check.

Absolutely sinful? Check.

Malcolm Saint was an assignment. A story. A beautiful, difficult man I was supposed to uncover for a racy exposé.

I intended to reveal him, his secrets, his lifestyle—not let him reveal me. But my head was overtaken by my heart and suddenly nothing could stop me from falling. I fell for him, and I fell hard.

Malcolm Saint is absolute Sin, and I've become a hopeless Sinner.

Now that the assignment is over, Saint wants something from me--something unexpected--and I want this wicked playboy's heart. But how can I prove to the man who trusts no one that I’m worthy of becoming his plus one?"

GOD, I already want the book! And I'm not going to advance anything for you guys, but if you read the first book finale, you know what I mean... 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱

You can find the excerpt in Katy Evans' website through this link:

Review: 'GREY: Fifty Shades of Grey as told by Christian' - E.L. James

(⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 4 of 5 stars)

Please, note that this text may contain some SPOILERS, so stop now if you hadn't read the book.

Before getting into the details of what do I exactly think about this book, I want to clarify that I completely agree with the statement The Washington Post made in their article about GREY: Fifty Shades of Grey as told by Christian** (If you want to read the article, I'm putting the link below), this is clearly a book made for FANS!! And based on this statement, I gave this book such a high rating.

I declare myself a hopeless Fifty Shades Fan! It doesn't matter that some of the sequences are poor written, or the lack of imagination of the author to describe some of the scenes, or that is based in Washington State but the main character speaks as if she just arrived from Oxford, or that Ana Steele's mind is simply annoying most of the time. I just LOVE how the relationship evolves, how Christian changes from dominant to caring and how it makes me feel, to be completely honest with you guys!

Ok, stop the rambling about me! Let's get to the book - I really like it! Even if there was nothing new to add to the story, I loved to learn that Christian was a plain bastard - just like any other man (sorry if you feel ofended, hahah). He thinks exactly as guy thinks, with his dick, plain and straight forward.

It was a pleasure to find that most of Anastasia's girlish expectations were in her head and that she built her own fantasies based on what she was thinking and not based on what he really was. Like, when Christian takes Ana for dinner in his parents, she's right thinking that he did it because Elliot invited Kate - there is no more into it. Sure, later he feels good about having her there with him, but at the beginning he did it because he was pressure to it. So, no romanticism about how he wanted her in every part of his life, because at that moment he doesn't know that.

I have read some jokes about the way the book evokes Christian's dick all the time, but let's face it - guys think with that part of their body all the time - ask any of your male friends to confirm this! Or, if they don't, at least they like us girls to think they do! So, bravo E.L. James for embraced this part of Christian's mind show him just as he is.

I found refreshing the fact that he is obsess with fucking her all the time, but he's still able to think about other important parts of his life, like he's work - is nice to see some of his interaction with his staff, his colleagues, his family, his ex-subs, Flynn and even Elena.
It was really nice to see his behavior apart from Anastasia - how's Christian without Miss Steele, at least at the first half of the book, when he is still in his Ivory Tower. Then he's constantly fighting with his crazy impulses - using phrases like "Get a grip" "Get control" or "Control yourself". He knows he's losing it! But he refuse to do so!

I found this book best written than the previous in the series, even with the constant repetitions of some expressions, this story moves forward with more ease then when is told by Anastasia. We are presented with the facts, not with infinitive thoughts about the same subject over and over (I really was tired of little Miss Steele! hahaha) - in fact, now I want to hear the rest of the story from his perspective, but this would be stretching E.L. James's luck! She can really screw it up if she continues this thing. Better leave it at rest, let us read and reread and fill the blanks with our imagination.

Here I leave you the link for the article of the Washington Post:

Feel free to tell me what you think about the book en the comments below. ⬇️

And like always, thank you guys for reading and see you between the pages!

Review: After We Collided (After #2) - Anna Todd

(⭐️ - 1 of 5 stars)

-- Please, note that you can find some spoilers on the lines, so if you haven't read the book I suggest you go at it first.--

I FINALLY finished reading this book and It was really hard not to dropped it in the middle of it. Why? Several reasons actually:

#1
Why does the author needs 123 chapters to write this book???? It could have been summarized in much less words than what Anna Todd used in it... since it doesn't have a plot... at all.
Ok, I get that she's trying to build up in the love story around Tessa and Hardin but it could have been good if she focus on create another disruption beside the fact that Hardin (and now also Tessa) is a mess, maybe create a valid love triangle between them and Zed or Trevor or whatever.
In the first book it was kind of refreshing to see Hardin being rude and Tessa just figuring out what to do with him and with the rest of her life - but in this one, he's just CRAZY most of the time, with really irrational and shit ass behavior that freaks me out, while she's basically STUPID most of the time, going back and forth between confusion, dismay and acting like a 12 year old. I think even Smith, with 5 years old, is more mature than her. I know she is madly in love with Hardin and I get that love is sometimes irrational, but seriously? Can she has a little more of shelf respect and show some restrain? I mean, she's supposed to be REALLY smart and all.
I don't mean to be hard on her on propuse, we all had that time of weakness when you are drunk and really sad and call your ex, begging or something, but please Tessa!!! Stop doing it all the time! Listen to Landon, Zed, your mom, Karen, Ken and everyone who's telling you THINK ABOUT YOURSELF - And in the mean time, think with your head and not with other parts of your body.

#2
Why do they talk about marriage so much???? She just turned 19th just a month or so ago for Christ sake!!!!!! And he is definitely not marriage material, not that I think that there should be a type or something, just seems to me that to think about something so big you have to have some things figure out first.
For example, what is Hardin doing with his life after college? I know he "works" and that he wants to go to England, but that doesn't seems like a plan to me - and, don't they have to share some goals in order to talk about a future together?
Is a damn intense conversation for a couple that only got to know each other 6 months ago, just saying; so Tessa, girl, chill out a bit! Not every relationship ends in marriage and certainly, ALL of them starts with baby steps! Again, listen to the people around you before you think in all this nonsense.

#3
Obviously, this is not a healthy relationship!!!! And I'm a little concerned about the kind of message this sends back - please, don't get scared, I'm not trying to become a moralist, but is safe to say that is not a normal behavior for a guy to get so crazy and mad that he breaks everything in his way, drinks himself to oblivion and hurt everyone who try to stop him, even the girl he supposedly love (not even if is without meaning it) and the understanding actitud of Tessa is ok but it has to have its limits!

#4
Last, the writing mistakes again - time laps that doesn't make sense, like how Hardin is supposed to arrive to Vance party if he was in England that morning! What happened to the time difference and the incredible LONG flight from London to Washington state???
Also the inconsistencies and contradictions in the story - like, why does Hardin is using his phone to lighted Zed's room, when the story says he smashed it in England before and after this scene happens? If fact, this is so important to the story that is the reason why Hardin didn't hear Tessa's voice mail... So how does the author and the editors can miss this??? I know Anna Todd wrote most of her books in her mobile, but someone should have told her to check this type of things.

Ok, so overall, you can sense my opinion is pretty negative so please, feel free to criticize me point of view in the comments below!

Thanks for reading and see you between the pages!

Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian (Fifty Shades #4)

Holly S..t!!! E.L. James now bring us the story from Christian's perspective... So, let's be real about this - this could be a mayor hit or a total disaster!!!

For those who are as shock as I was to see this, here's the description of the book:

"See the world of Fifty Shades of Grey anew through the eyes of Christian Grey.

In Christian's own words, and through his thoughts, reflections, and dreams, E L James offers a fresh perspective on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the world.

Christian Grey exercises control in all things; his world is neat, disciplined, and utterly empty—until the day that Anastasia Steele falls into his office, in a tangle of shapely limbs and tumbling brown hair. He tries to forget her, but instead is swept up in a storm of emotion he cannot comprehend and cannot resist. Unlike any woman he has known before, shy, unworldly Ana seems to see right through him—past the business prodigy and the penthouse lifestyle to Christian’s cold, wounded heart.

Will being with Ana dispel the horrors of his childhood that haunt Christian every night? Or will his dark sexual desires, his compulsion to control, and the self-loathing that fills his soul drive this girl away and destroy the fragile hope she offers him?"

Let me get this straight!! Are we going to read the SAME stories we already know, but from his point of view? What possibly new things can add this book? I know that is really great to get the idea about how Christian's mind works, but a complete book about it seems a little extreme to me. I was beyond happy with the sneak peek E.L. James gave us at the end of FIFTY SHADES FREED (which basically was my favorite part of the ending book of the series), but to twist that into an entire book can be really dangerous considering that it can ruin everyones fantasies about Grey, just as Jamie Dornan did in the movie.

So, good luck with that E.L. - I'm really hopping I'm wrong about this! Of course, I'm gonna read the book and let you guys know about my thoughts.

And for the sake of laughter, here's Jimmy Fallon's perspective about it! Hahahaha

Hope you enjoy the book and see you between the pages!

Review: After #1 - Anna Todd

( ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 3 of 5 stars)

Ok, so I just finished to read the first book of the After Series, After.
Please, note that you can find some spoilers on the lines, so if you haven't read the book I suggest you go at it first.

I want to highlight the positive points first - in my opinion is a really interesting book that you can related to, since is a love story developed in a certain known environment, meaning high school, college or any other place we went to outgrow our childhood.

I can say that I really enjoyed getting to know Tessa - she's really naïve most of the time, but she's not afraid to express what she thinks and feels in any moment and to take whatever course of action her heart gives her, so I give her points for that. Also, we can see how she grows as the chapters pass by - at first, she's just a girl that is confortable with her mom bossing her around, but then she starts to figure out that this is not a good thing for her - not only for her love life, but for her entire life.

Another positive point for me is the fact that the book does not leave us black spaces of time between scenes. We know what the characters are doing almost at any time and that give us a great amount of details to understand better the characters and the situations. Also, Anna Todd is not filling this space with crap about what Tessa is thinking, like most of this kind of book does. She takes the time to describe situations and places to put us right in the spot where we should be while reading the lines.

I also like that Hardin is not a good guy at all - he's rude and mean and you can tell from moment one that he is hiding something. And I am not talking about his dark image, that has been touch in so many books by now, but this is one of the few in which the main male character does not have a secret sweet identity hid from the world. I know that probably you're not gonna agree with me since he's sweet with Tessa at times, but in general he keeps he's personality pretty stable - you can tell what bothers him and what cheers him most of the time.

Plus, I really like the end of the book - not the uncover since I practically knew that Hardin and Zed had a bet on Tessa since the first time Hardin start asking about the conversations Tessa maintain with Zed - but the fact the leave us hanging, that we have to read the next book to know the details of the bet and all around it.

Cover all that out, now I have some negative points to highlight as well. Let's start with the writing - in my opinion, not the best. There are a lot of time slips, like first that author says that it has been a couple of day, and then she implies that is only been a day - or when she says that Hardin has both Tessa's wrist on top of her head but then Tessa can grab Hardin by his shirt at the same time. I don't know if you find it strange like me. I have to say, in Anna Todd's defense, that a read a ebook copy, so I don't know if is the editing of it.

Another negative side is the fact that, as I already point out, you can tell pretty much easily about the bet since the begging - there is no mystery beside that, at least not in this first book. We got some hints that Hardin is dangerous and I was kind of expecting something else - like that he's part of a mob or he has another interest on Tessa besides the bet or the love for her, so i wasn't surprise when she FINALLY figure it out.

Last, but not least, is the fact that they are only 18 and 19 years old!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if you guys had that kind of life when you were in college, but in my case I didn't have the time, the money or maturity to do half the things that this guys do at their age! Hahahaha - I was basically focus in passing my classes, have fun with my friends and hit at some guys, so I say that maybe they could have been a little older to support some of the situations. For example, who has an office in their first internship at their freshmen year????? And I know that the relation between Mr. Vance and Hardin's dad is part of the reason, but still is a little extreme. Also, why is Tessa not going to classes anymore after she starts working??? The book clearly says that she was going to alternate between classes and her knew job, so what happened to that? In my opinion, they are going and coming over like they already graduate and have and independent life without responsibilities and that kind of freaks me out!

So, overall, I enjoyed the reading and I'm looking forward to start the second book to find out about more details. Please, let me know what you think of this book and also, why does everyone assume that Hardin in the writer version of Harry Styles???? (I don't know if it was something the author said or what, so please enlighten me!!! hahahah)

Thanks for reading!
